Common mistakes we see with clients planning their Soft Skill and English Training Programs

Fragmenting suppliers: Don’t use multiple suppliers for the same skills. It limits the ability of your supplier create a relationship with the trainees and the client. Additionally, it makes it nearly impossible to create any sort of cohesive and consistent training program.

Unclear and non-measurable targets: Targets need to be measurable and realistic. There needs to be a clear ‘WHY’ and link to how the training will help the trainees afterwards.

Focusing only on price and not value provided: The ugly truth is that you get what you pay for. This holds especially true in Vietnam where the market is full of unqualified and under-equipped individuals & companies. There is so much more to a training program than just price. You need to be looking at the value that’s being created.

Too many trainees in one group: Far too often with our Business English Courses we have requests to have up to 20 trainees in a group. Each time, we have to turn down this request because it simply doesn’t work. You cannot put that many trainees into a group and expect any sort of progress. We limit all of our English Trainings (and most of our Soft Skills Trainings) to no more than 12 trainees. Be wary of any provider that agrees to putting more than 12 trainees together in a training group.

Not giving enough time to develop: A 3-month English course or a single Soft Skills workshop is simply not going to create the change you’re expecting. These skills take time to develop. Give them time.

Not having ‘buy in’ from everyone: If your training program is going to succeed, you need complete buy-in from all of the trainees and all leaders/management of those trainees. The close-knit relationship and encouragement relationship between trainees, management, and the trainers cannot be understated.

No follow up: The actual training is only half of the job. There needs to be follow-up done after the training by both the supplier and management make sure the training is being applied, and more importantly, that performance is improved as a result.

We see the above mistakes every single day. We also see that the majority of training providers do not focus on helping their clients overcome these mistakes. All too often, the approach is “In and Out”; deliver the boxed training that’s applied to everyone and leave when it’s finished.

We don’t see it that way at all. In fact, we hate that way. We see a successful training partnership as one that we become very much involved in your business and employees so we can better research and deliver our trainings for you. We aim for our partnerships to last several years.

Our mission is to become the ‘go-to’ training company in Vietnam for English & Soft Skills Training for Adults.

 See you soon!
